Origins

Founded in 1980 by Ian and Jackie Clough, Intech began as a pioneering IT and software consultancy. With Ian's deep expertise in bespoke Fortran systems, Intech initially focused on the critical need for reliable business data transfer solutions, a challenging problem in that era.

This led to the creation of our proprietary software, Dialafile. Originally designed for modem and serial line data transfers, Dialafile has evolved over the decades to include IP capabilities. It remains trusted nationally and internationally, for the reliable and time transfer of vital business data.

Our journey of innovation continued as Stuart Harrison joined the team in 1985, becoming a veteran developer in Fortran and C. Dialafile expanded its reach, running on diverse platforms such as DEC VAX, PDP11, HP1000, HP3000, and DOS. By the late 1980s, we had further diversified, creating bespoke systems for systems as varied as sales management, currency trading, and shipping communications. This era also saw the birth of our Electrofiche software, a powerful front-end solution for viewing business data, which remains a key tool in modern digital workflows, on desktop and iPad.

The 1990s marked a period of rapid growth for Intech, driven by the success of Dialafile and Electrofiche, and our continued commitment to bespoke software development. We crafted solutions for industries ranging from pharmaceuticals to wholesale, including a pioneering ERP system that set the stage for our future innovations on SCO Unix and later Linux.

By 2000, Stuart Harrison had risen to the role of director, guiding Intech into a new era. As the digital landscape evolved, so did we. In 2003, we embraced the power of the internet, developing remote ordering systems that replaced aging serial and modem-based connections. Our continued expansion led us to our current office in 2002, a move that reflected our growing ambitions and the trust our clients placed in us.

In 2016, after 36 years at the helm, Ian and Jackie Clough retired, leaving behind a legacy of innovation, dedication, and a company poised for the future.

Expanding Horizons

In the 2020s, Intech embarked on a strategic growth journey, expanding our service portfolio to meet the evolving needs of our clients. Recognising the importance of cybersecurity, cloud services, and automation in today's digital world, we integrated these offerings into our core services.

To support these initiatives, we adopted modern toolsets and methodologies such including Configuration-as-Code, Infrastructure-as-Code, containerisation, CI/CD pipelines, and cutting-edge web development frameworks.

Even as we move forward, we remain dedicated to our roots, continuing to support legacy systems while assisting our clients in migrating to modern platforms, and delivering cutting-edge software solutions that stand the test of time. At Intech, we're not just keeping pace with the future—we're shaping it.
